Issa al -Naimi, secretary general of the Council of Ministers and Mubarak bin Nasser al-Khalifa, secretary general of the Ministry of Culture, Arts & Heritage, presided over the certification ceremony, where 32 professional translators who participated in the workshop, were awarded certificates.
The officials called on participants to create an enabling environment for the translator’s thinking and innovation in Qatar.
Both the ministry and IAD welcomed the participants’ demand for holding similar workshops in the near future on a regular basis as it will be a professional forum for translators in Qatar to acquire new skills and improve their linguistic capabilities.
The participants said that the workshop was an eye-opener for them on current and future trends in the profession.
They understood the importance of the pragmatic training needed for a complementary relationship between daily practice and professional guidelines that are required for producing stylish, precise and complex translations ranging from literary, and political to technical genres.
Opening keynote speaker and trainer Mowafak Tawfiq from Al Jazeera Channel, illustrated the subtlety of simultaneous interpretation and the application of the right techniques to select the right word, the right connotation, the right style and about ways to remain faithful to the original speech or text.
Participants reached a consensus that translation was a matter of trust and it was possible to conciliate between trust and the aesthetic character of the target language.
