RasGas presented its liquefied natural gas (LNG) technology at Gastech 2011, the global gas conference and exhibition taking place in Amsterdam.

A highlight of the programme was a technical session on ‘LNG, LPG and chemical gas shipping,’ where Hamad Mubarak al-Muhannadi, RasGas Operations Group Manager, delivered a presentation on ‘New technologies and innovations advancing Qatar’s LNG industry.’
“RasGas and Qatar have recently completed a significant expansion programme to supply LNG to markets throughout the world,” said al-Muhannadi..
“As well as meticulous planning, the unprecedented scale of this programme required creativity and the implementation of technological innovations from the wellhead to the plant, through shipping, and on to the product-receiving terminals.”
To illustrate the success of RasGas’ innovations, al-Muhannadi referred to some recent LNG industry benchmarking results. He said RasGas had established a leading position in global benchmarking, scoring better than the LNG industry average in several key areas.
“For example, RasGas achieved nearly 98% reliability and 95% asset utilisation,” al-Muhannadi explained.
Al-Muhannadi’s presentation demonstrated RasGas’ innovations through the LNG value chain, including pioneering sub-surface and surface technology in Qatar’s North Field; processes to enhance LNG production; investment in new LNG refrigeration machinery technology; emissions reduction to preserve the environment; plant commissioning (reducing time to LNG production); LNG shipping (Q-Flex and Q-Max carriers); the development of offshore receiving terminals; and innovations to maintain the company’s high operational performance, safety and reliability.
