The winning team
“Hey Buddies” from Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, won the institution’s Brain Bowl Competition – an academic trivia quiz held on Thursday.
MARS, Beecees and Jazba were the other teams in the event co-sponsored every semester by the Liberal Arts and Sciences Department and Student Affairs at Carnegie Mellon Qatar.
Brain Bowl competition, which was launched in the spring of 2008 by Ben Reilly, professor of liberal arts and sciences at CMU Qatar, has proven to be popular among students and faculty
members.
The two-hour quiz night comprised 75 questions, seven of which were directed to the audience.
The questions varied from liberal arts topics, general trivia, current trivia, to academic trivia, including math, biology, chemistry, English, foreign languages, history, logic puzzles and the
classics.
“The questions require intelligence more than studying, as some of the questions can be answered by using the clues and hints from the question itself,” said Prof Reilly, the master host.
The winning team “Hey Buddies”, answered a total of 25 questions, earning 14 points, which made them lead the game by four points against Beecees.
The team comprised, Ousama Obeid, Mohamed Behih, Yazan Abou Hijleh and Mohamed Tayyab, and was awarded Carnegie Mellon University’s branded items and merchandise.
“This is the fourth time we participate and this is the third time we win,” said Obeid.
