Sheikh Ali Abdullah A A al-Thani and Dr Peter Jewesson shake hands after signing the agreement yesterday
The Well Care Group and Qatar University’s College of Pharmacy yesterday signed an agreement under which students would complete a 24-week structured practice training at the group’s clinics as part of their BSc pharmacy curriculum.
Sheikh Ali Abdullah A A al-Thani and Dr Peter Jewesson signed for the Well Care Group and the College of Pharmacy respectively during an agreement signing ceremony held at the Orxy Rotana hotel and attended by the Well Care Group managing director Ashraf K P.
Four pharmacies belonging to the group including Arafa, Mina, Meeqat and Al Hijrah have been chosen as training sites starting from June 2011.
The Well Care Group pharmacies have been operating in Qatar for 12 years. The group currently has a total of 15 pharmacies with expansion plans to establish in more than 10 locations by end of the year.
Dr Jewesson said: “The growth of academics and its partnering with community pharmacy could be mutually beneficial. The trainees would immensely benefit from the direct training they acquire at the community pharmacy and in turn would be able to impart the information regarding the latest technology which would lead to a better standard of service in the health sector.”
Ashraf said that the group is currently planning to establish Qatar’s first “Hyper Pharmacy” which would provide, under a single roof, access to informatics, drug compliance counselling, pharmaceutical products, nutraceuticals, surgical, post-surgical recuperation systems and other advanced healthcare products.
The Well Care Group has a number of agreements with the world’s top healthcare providers to impart professional services to the population of Qatar, he said. The group also organises charity events, medical camps as well as sports and cultural activities during its annual “Wellcare Day”.
