DPS Modern Indian School has clinched the Ambassador’s Rolling Trophy while Ideal Indian School won the Institution of Engineers India (IEI) Rolling Trophy for the environmental competition ‘Project 5S’.

The competition, including a series of programmes was held among all the Indian schools in Qatar by the local chapter of IEI, and took six months to conclude.

Project 5S stands for ‘School Students Struggle for Sustainability and to Save Environment’.

DPS won a total of 89 points, followed closely by Al Khor Indian School (87), and Ideal Indian School (85) for the Ambassador’s Trophy.

Birla Public School scored 67 and led MES Indian School (66), Doha Modern Indian School (62), and Shanthinikethan (55).

IEI Trophy winners Ideal Indian School scored 191 points and were trailed by DPS Modern Indian School with 182 points and Al Khor Indian School with 177 points.

The presentation project was won by Birla Public School (205 points), followed by DPS Modern Indian School and Ideal Indian School (200 each).

Indian Ambassador Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa gave away plaques of appreciation, medals and certificates to 56 students, 18 teachers, five environment professionals and 15 organising committee members at the presentation ceremony in the presence of guest of honour and Qatar Society of Engineers chairman Engineer Ahmed Jolo.

The Qatar Design Consortium donated seven computers to the Project 5S teams while Gulf Incon gave away three sets of encyclopaedia.

Gopalan lauded the organisers and complimented all the participating schools.

Earlier, Eng Animesh Sarkar, the honorary chairman of IEI Qatar chapter, welcomed the gathering, while honorary secretary Eng Seenu Pillai, who served as Project 5S co-ordinator, talked about the achievements of different schools.

As a result of Project 5S, 8,000kgs of used textbooks have also been collected to be re-used.

Other senior officials who spoke included Eng Abdul Sattar and Eng Saravana Kumar.
