Visiting Spanish businessmen and QCCI officials at the meeting at the QCCI office yesterday

A visiting business delegation from the Basque region in Spain, led by the region’s President Patxi Lopez,  held a meeting here yesterday with a Qatari business delegation from Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI).

The meeting was aimed to enhance co-operation between the two sides and brief the visiting delegation on investment opportunities in Qatar, especially after the country won the bid to host the 2022 World Soccer Cup.

On the occasion the president of Basque region said after the important meetings he held with Qatari officials, he highlighted Qatar’s interest in the Basque’s contribution to the ongoing construction and development process in the country, noting that about 50 companies from the region are now operating in Qatar.

He added that Qatar imports 25% of Basque’s exports, expressing his interest in the enhancement of co-operation in broader sectors such as energy, transport and household  utensils.

The Basque president said he is accompanied by a large delegation representing specialised companies in many fields to explore co-operation prospects between the two sides in various fields.

He said his meetings with Qatari officials were positive, adding that the delegation was briefed on Qatar’s strategic vision aimed at building a stable economy based on knowledge and sustainable development.

The Deputy Board Chairman of Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari praised the strength of the Qatari economy, which is one of the fast growing economies in the world as a result to the investment projects, established by the state in the hydrocarbon sector and the ambitious fiscal plans which spurred this growth. 

Al-Kuwari indicated that Qatar achieved a growth rate of 18.5% last year against a growth rate of 9% in 2009.
