Staff Major Gen al-Khulaifi said: “Our country is heading towards democracy with steady steps. The country has approved a number of principles aimed at achieving this objective. This includes separation of powers, constitutional supremacy and equality between the individuals and the protection of their rights and freedoms.”
Qatar has also started building a host of institutions: the Shura Council, the CMC, which elects its members through a free election, and the National Human Rights Committee, he said.
Col al-Maliki said that the CMC election web-link is one of the important tools in the electoral process as it makes available all the information and data that help both the voters and candidates.
Lt Col al-Sulaiti said that the link will help voters locate their constituencies, know all the details related to the electoral process and its legislative tools, and the rights of voters and candidates and their duties as well as register for the electoral process.
Maj al-Sulaiti said: “The elections will be held in two phases. In the first phase, voters can register, delete, add and file for appeals and grievances. In the second phase, the candidates can file the nominations, then go for appealing and grievances followed by electoral campaigns. After that, the final stage of election will be held.”
