Dr Youssef Al-Horr: keynote speaker
The Green Building Solutions Conference and Exhibition 2011 will take place for the first time in Doha from March 2-4 under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani.
The Middle East’s largest event related to sustainable development in the construction industry will be organised at the Doha Exhibition Centre by the Barwa and Qatari Diar Research Institute (BQDRI) in partnership with Qatar Expo Event Management and Grey Doha.
The Supreme Council for the Environment and Qatar’s leading real estate development companies Barwa and Qatari Diar will also take part in the premier event.
Demonstrating Qatar’s commitment to ‘creating a green legacy for generations to come’, Green Building Solutions 2011 will bring together an exclusive gathering of real estate developers, consultants and designers, energy industry, government ministries and related industries motivated by the desire to ensure the principles of sustainable development are at the heart of economic and social progress.
The conference will feature interactive debate as 500 top-level local and international construction and environment experts present an inspiring series of workshops, presentations and speeches, including a workshop introducing delegates to the Qatar Sustainability Assessment System (QSAS).
Also, hundreds of local and international companies are expected in the exhibition, which plans to expand into the Asia/Pacific market in 2012.
Among the sustainable development products and services to be on display are water and waste management technology, environmental measuring systems, noise and air pollution, and environment organisations.
The event keynote speaker BQDRI chairman and managing director Dr Youssef al-Horr said: Green Building Solutions 2011 is a major sustainable development event and very different from similar events in the region. Not only will the event promote QSAS, the first green building assessment system in the Middle East but the event has the support of major Qatari organisations including Barwa Real Estate, Qatari Diar, Ashghal and Kahramaa.”
He added that the motto of BQDRI was to endorse Qatar National Vision 2030 in line with HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani’s instructions and make Qatar the capital of green.
During the exhibition, the minister will present the first Green Building Solutions awards being described as the Middle East’s environmental ‘Oscars’.
“If we want to tackle the crucial challenges of our time, we have to encourage participation in the Green Building Solutions Conference and Exhibition 2011 which promotes the partnership between the private and public sectors, and creates suitable solutions,” Qatar Expo chief executive officer Karim Zarka said.
