Community members at the commemoration for Tariq Masood
Friends and family recently gathered to mark the death of prominent member of the Pakistani community in Qatar, Tariq Masood, who passed away in Lahore, Pakistan, on December 26.
Masood, a resident of Qatar since 1962, is survived by his wife, son and daughter.
The event was held at the residence of Masood’s close friend, M S Bukhari.
“Many distinguished personalities from Qatar paid homage to Tariq Masood and commemorated respectfully his activities towards the development of Urdu language, poetry and artistry,” said an attendee at the commemoration, adding “various collective prayers were also offered to give peace to the departed soul.”
“He was a philanthropist and a great human being - always a helping hand for the needy and a never complaining type of person,” he added.
A great lover of poetry and the arts, Masood had translated 37 of Pakistani poet, Amjad Islam Amjad’s best known poems into English, and was also on the verge of opening an art gallery in Islamabad.
“His loss was felt by everyone and will ever be felt in their entire lives,” added another friend.
