Al Shaqab, a member of the prestigious Qatar Foundation working continuously on  the vision of His Excellency Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, produced a historical sweep in the United States Egyptian Event as it won six major titles to underline its stature as one of the major farms in the world.
Not only Al Shaqab secured the Best Breeder’s crown in the event at the Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington (June 4 to 9), it also bagged the Gold Champion Mare (Hooria Al Shaqab), Gold Champion Stallion (Hadban Al Shaqab), Gold Champion Colt (Ghasham Al Shaqab), Gold Champion Filly (Layali Al Shaqab), and Bronze Champion Mare (Dawlah Al Shaqab).
This is the first time in the U.S. Straight Egyptian Event in Kentucky that a single breeder pulled off so many successes in one show. Over the week-long show, the perfect lead-up to the championships was produced by Al Shaqab’s all five entries, winning every age division class they had competed in.
Hooria Al Shaqab, a mare from renowned Al Adeed Al Shaqab, was also credited with highest scores as well in the show.
Al Shaqab Breeding and Show Manager Mohamed al-Sulaiti was elated at the remarkable performance by the famed Qatari farm, founded by the Emir HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani.
“We have made history,” said al-Sulaiti. “We could not be more excited and proud of our horses. This is something special that we will remember for a long time.”
The first gold championship was awarded to debutant Layali Al Shaqab, the yearling filly who was the first-born American foal of 2010 US Egyptian Event Supreme Champion Male, Farhoud Al Shaqab. She is the first offspring of Farhoud Al Shaqab to enter the show arena out of only a small first crop of six.
Next it was Ghasham Al Shaqab who was crowned Gold Champion Colt, qualifying for the championship with his 2-year-old class win.
In the Mares championship, Hooria Al Shaqab was a strong contender for the Gold and it proved it as well. This 2006 grey daughter of Al Adeed Al Shaqab had won the Mares 6-7 years old class earlier in the week.
Dawlah Al Shaqab also collected the Bronze Championship in the Mares division after claiming first place in the Mares 4-6 years old category.
Finally in the coveted Stallions division, the gold championship was awarded to Hadban Al Shaqab. This distinguished 11-year-old grey stallion is the half brother to Al Adeed Al Shaqab. Both of them topped the US Egyptian Event as Gold Champion Stallions. The late Sundar Alisayyah, holds the unprecedented feat of being the only mare to have two US Egyptian Event Gold Champion Stallion sons.
