La Hoor with Marvin Suerland in the driver’s seat came smoothly in the home stretch and never seemed to be in danger of being caught as he stepped up the pace in the final furlong and sped away to record his second straight victory. Earlier La Hoor had demolished the field in a maidens race in April. He seems to be in great form and will be force to reckon with in the forthcoming season.
Mohamed Hussain trained Aghlab Al Naif shed his maiden status with a commanding victory in the Pure Arabian Maiden Maiden Plate. Frenchman David Bouland had no difficulty in getting the Hussain trainee to hit the front from the word ‘go’. On turning for the home stretch Aghlab Al Naif skipped away to take his first win from nine outings. Basira moved aggressively from behind to take the second place ahead of Barre.
Salem al-Harji’s Gabrial’s Princess had to wage a stiff battle before kicking clear in the hands of jockey Suerland in the Thoroughbred Maiden Plate. Abastoban essayed a strong challenge to Gabrial’s Princess but the Hajri ward had enough reserves to pull away. Villa Reigns came from the rear to finish an impressive third.
Mohamed al-Marri schooled Al Mazrooah recorded a smashing win in the 1,200 metres local Thoroughbred Handicap for horses rated 0 to 40. Al Mazrooah led all the way and then stretched away from the opposition to win by a widening margin of eight lengths over Smiling Assasin and Assil. Jockey Arnaud Bouleau was impressive on the saddle on the winner.
Ibrahim al-Malki’s Tamek (Mark Lawson astride) had no problem in disposing of the challenge of Mutheer in the local bred Pure Arabian Handicap, a race for horses rated 35 to 60. The runner up ran an encouraging race and can be expected to make his mark pretty soon.
Trainer Ibrahim completed a back to back double when Qatar rider Naif al-Hajri came up with yet another brilliant performance while steering Tameh to a pillar to post victory in the Thoroughbred Handicap for horses rated 50 to 70.
Ibrahim had another winner for the day when Lawson took Barq Al Naif to a successful start to finish mission in the local bred Pure Arabian Stakes.
