Saudi Arabian rider Abdul Aziz bin Laden won the first race of the Qatar International Road Racing Championship at Losail International Circuit yesterday.Starting on pole on his BMW, he took advantage of British rider Scott Smart’s mechanical problems to cross the finish in first place.
Youssef al-Malki, also on a BMW, finished in second position and Nasser al-Malki was third after a tough fight with Sultan al-Kuwari.
The second race was, however, won by Smart after bin Laden opted out because of electronic problems during the warm-up.
Like in the first race, al-Malki and al-Kuwari finished second and third.
In the cars category defending champion Rob Frijns took the first place, while Jassim al-Madeed and Hamad bin Eid al-Thani were second and third respectively.
