Al-Mohannadi with senior EDF and RasGas executives following the LNG supply agreement between the two companies in Doha
RasGas recently extended a long-term LNG supply agreement with EDF Trading, a wholly-owned subsidiary of EDF SA, for the supply of 3.4mn tonnes of LNG per year to northwest Europe markets.
RasGas, a major global liquefied natural gas producer and EDF Trading had signed an LNG supply deal in April 2007 for deliveries of up to 3.4mn tonnes a year of LNG, equivalent to approximately 4.5bn cu m.
EDF Trading is one of the largest participants in the global power, gas, coal, freight and environmental products markets.
“The latest agreement marks a further extension of an already excellent and strong long-term relationship between RasGas and EDF Trading,” a company statement said.
RasGas managing director Hamad Rashid al-Mohannadi said: “This agreement is a major achievement for RasGas and highlights a successful effort between RasGas and the EDF Group. It enables the continuation of deliveries of gas by RasGas to markets in northwest Europe.”
LNG, to be sourced from RasGas’ existing production trains in Ras Laffan, will be delivered at the Zeebrugge LNG Terminal in Belgium.
EDF Trading chief executive John Rittenhouse said, “This agreement emphasises EDF Trading’s leading role in the long-term gas market. We are pleased to be working alongside RasGas as LNG is and will continue to be an important source of supply for the EDF Group and our third party customers”.
