Led down by Industries Qatar (IQ) and Barwa, the 20-stock benchmark lost 41 points to 8,340.84 points.
The market is down 3.93% year-to-date.
Other influential losers included Qatar Electricity and Water, Qatar Telecom and Gulf Warehousing.
The services index fell 1.05%, followed by industry (0.70%) and banks (0.18%), whereas insurance gained 1.11%.
Market capitalisation was down 0.39% or about QR2bn to QR446.73bn with micro, large and mid cap equities losing 0.56%, 0.47% and 0.44% respectively, even as small caps gained 0.33%.
Of the 42 stocks, 11 advanced, while 24 declined, one was unchanged and six were not traded.
Foreign institutions continued to be profit-takers but with lesser vigour as their net selling sunk to 27.24% from 33.77% in the previous day.
A higher 18.60% of them were into buying compared to 14.35% on Tuesday; while a lower 45.84% were into selling against 48.12%.
However, domestic institutions were increasingly bullish as their net buying swelled to 13.22% from 7.46% in the previous day.
A higher 25.46% of them bought equities against 22.24% on Tuesday while a lower 12.24% of them sold compared to 14.78%.
Qatari individual investors’ bullish grip considerably weakened as their net buying plunged to 9.62% from 19.08% in the previous day.
A lower 40.76% of them purchased equities against 47.12% on Tuesday whereas a higher 31.14% sold compared to 28.04%.
Non-Qatari retail investors’ bullish grip eased as their net buying fell to 4.40% from 7.22% in the previous day.
A marginally lower 15.18% of them were into buying compared to 16.29% on Tuesday; while a marginally higher 10.78% were into offloading against 9.07%.
Total trading volume fell 51% to 4.76mn equities, value by 48% to QR180.19mn and deals by 45% to 3,257.
The industrial sector witnessed a 54% plunge in trading volume to 0.44mn shares, value by 50% to QR31.18mn and transactions by 50% to 414.
The services sector’s trading volume tanked 51% to 2.54mn shares, value by 51% to QR69.17mn and deals by 45% to 1,550.
Banks’ trading volume plummeted 49% to 1.74mn equities, value by 45% to QR76.80mn and deals by 43% to 1,234.
The insurance sector’s trading volume fell 44% to 0.05mn shares, value by 42% to QR3.03mn and transactions by 25% to 59.
Actively traded stocks (in terms of volume) were Barwa (1.15mn shares); Rayan (1.08mn); Nakilat (299,753); Vodafone Qatar (257,717) and IQ (183,994).
