Foreign institutions were increasingly bullish on the QE yesterday as their net buying zoomed to 17.40% from 1.85% in the previous day
The Qatar Exchange yesterday snapped a three-day bearish spell as the benchmark gained 0.59% on strong buying support from foreign institutions.
The 20-stock index gained 50 points to 8491.43 points.
The market is however down 2.19% year-to-date.
Prime gainers were Qatar Telecom, Masraf Al Rayan, Qatar Navigation, Nakilat and Barwa.
Maximum buying was seen in services, whose index surged 1.42%, followed by insurance (0.62%), industry (0.28%) and banks (0.17%).
Market capitalisation was up 0.37% or more than QR1bn to QR434.44bn with micro, mid and small cap equities gaining 1.33%, 0.68% and 0.22% respectively.
Of the 42 stocks, 24 gained, while 14 declined and two were not traded. Two others were not traded.

A much higher 27.33% of them were into buying compared to 16.57% on Tuesday; while a lower 9.93% were into selling against 14.72%.
Domestic institutions, on the other hand, were increasingly profit-takers as their net selling rose to 7.71% from 4.79% in the previous day.
A higher 31.50% of them bought equities against 20.66% on Tuesday but a much higher 39.21% of them sold compared to 25.45%.
Qatari individual investors turned bearish as they were net sellers to the tune of 9.02% compared with net buyers of 3.84% in the previous day.
A much lower 29.57% of them purchased equities against 44.57% on Tuesday and a marginally lower 38.59% sold compared to 40.73%.
Non-Qatari retail investors’ bearish grip weakened as their net selling shrank to 0.68% from 0.89% in the previous day.
A lower 11.60% of them were into buying against 18.20% on Tuesday and a lower 12.28% were into offloading compared to 19.09%.
Total trading volume expanded 43% to 9.39mn equities, value by 80% to QR379.34mn and deals by 34% to 5,033.
The insurance sector’s trading volume more than doubled to 0.51mn shares, value almost tripled to QR26.48mn as transactions more than doubled to 330.
Banks’ trading volume surged 53% to 2.70mn equities, value by 64% to QR117.72mn and deals by 25% to 1,316.
The services sector’s trading volume gained 41% to 5.65mn shares, value by 90% to QR194.71mn and transactions by 32% to 2,859.
However, the industrial sector witnessed a 4% fall in trading volume to 0.54mn shares, whereas value rose 55% to QR40.42mn and deals by 33% to 528.
Actively traded stocks (in terms of volume) were Rayan (1.56mn shares); Nakilat (1.35mn); Barwa (1.09mn); Mazaya (786,342) and al khaliji (393,581).
