The newly-rebuilt Abu Al-Qabib Mosque near Souq Faleh in Doha is now open for worshippers. It is one of the oldest of mosques in Qatar which has been rebuilt according to its original design |
The mosque, located in the Doha souq area, was rebuilt according to the old design, which dates back to the time of the founder of the country Sheikh Jassim bin Mohamed bin Thani. It is considered one of the oldest mosques of Qatar that was used for worship until recently.
It was named Abu Al-Qabib because of its multiple domes which distinguished it from other mosques, besides its main minaret. The main prayer court of the mosque could accommodate about 1,300 worshippers and it has another prayer hall for women, big enough for 85 people. It has also an open yard and various service facilities such as ablution places and imam’s rest house.
“We are proud that we have been able to rebuild the mosque according to its original design and it is now open for worshippers,” said Mohamed Hamad al-Kuwari, director of mosques administration.
