Sheikh Hasina: “Our economic indexes are better despite global recession.” |

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday termed the resolution of maritime boundary dispute with Myanmar as a milestone in Bangladesh’s economic development, saying that it would help turn the country into a middle income in a decade.
“The resolution opens up the doors of immense potentialities for the present and future generations, while Bangladesh’s businesspeople would immensely benefit from it,” The prime minister said, while addressing a reception by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) in Dhaka.
The prime minister said the government wanted to make the country self-reliant in all sectors through proper utilisation of country’s resources.
“We have raised the size of Annual Development Programme (ADP) to 410bn taka by increasing 180bn taka in the last three years and we are implementing the ADP with small amount of foreign aid,” she said.
On economic state, Hasina said there was no reason to be worried about as economy was doing well despite global recession.
“Our economic indexes are better despite global recession as the forex reserve has crossed $10bn and the country clocked 6.7% growth in the last fiscal year,” the prime minister said.
Stating that Bangladesh is now an emerging economy, Hasina said the export sector witnessed over 13% growth from July to February, while 42% export growth was achieved in the last fiscal year and the country’s remittance inflow increased by 12.50%.
