Foreign Minister Dipu Moni receiving five Bangladeshi workers, freed in Afghanistan at Dhaka airport.

Five Bangladeshis, who were freed from the captivity of Afghan kidnappers on August 2, returned home yesterday.

Foreign Minister Dipu Moni received them after they arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka by an Emirates flight.
Earlier on August 2, Afghan kidnappers freed five Bangladeshis they had abducted in December last year from Mazar-i-Sharif area of northern
Afghanistan.
The freed Bangladeshi workers are: Aminul Islam, Mahbub Ali, Md Imam Uddin, Md Lovelu Rahman and Shafiqul Alam.
Talking to journalists at the airport, the foreign minister said that the government would do everything necessary for the welfare of the expatriate
Bangladeshi workers.
“These workers will get compensation from the government like the workers who have returned from Libya,” she added.
The foreign minister thanked the Afghan government for its help to bring the troubled workers back home.
The foreign minister said no ransom was paid for the release. “It is the outcome of long negotiations with the Afghan armed group,” she said.
She said the Afghan government had engaged elderly leaders in the negotiation with captors as they have a huge influence in Afghan society.
A suspected Afghan armed group abducted seven Bangladeshis on December 17, 2010 after raiding a Korean company’s construction site in Mazar-i-Sharif. A Bangladeshi worker was killed during the attack.
The kidnappers, however, freed two of the Bangladeshis on December 19 last year, while the release of the rest five came on August 2.
