PROTEST
Sri Lankan state workers and ruling party activists protest outside the main railway station in Colombo yesterday.

The protest was aimed to denounce Britain’s Channel 4 documentary “Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields”. The programme, which aired on British television in June, contained footage of what it said were prisoner executions and showed the bodies of female Tamil fighters who appeared to have been sexually assaulted. Sri Lanka has denied the footage and on August 1, 2011 released its own documentary to counter Channel 4, with testimony from Tamil doctors and civilians in the conflict zone denying the shelling of hospitals and the killing of non-combatants.
