Opposition leader and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia will lead the party’s July 13 mass hunger strike in the capital protesting police attack on the party chief whip.
Joynal Abedin Farroque was assaulted by police in the capital on July 6 on the first day of the 48-hour general strike across Bangladesh.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters yesterday that a joint meeting of the party and its associate organisations was held to make Wednesday’s mass hunger strike a success.
The hunger strike will be held at the city’s Engineers’ Institute, from 10am to 4pm.
The strike and countrywide demonstration yesterday was announced on Friday protesting against attack, arrest and filing of cases against BNP leaders and workers across the country and demanding restoration of caretaker government system and cancellation of the 15th amendment to the constitution.
The BNP acting secretary general urged the party leaders and workers to join the mass hunger strike.
