Commercial Bank has announced the launch of the 2013 Future Leaders Programme in partnership with the University of Cambridge (UK).

The programme, which was launched and run successfully for the first time in 2012, is dedicated to identifying and cultivating the next generation of banking industry leaders by delivering a comprehensive
leadership training experience.

In its second year, 35 employees have been chosen to participate in the programme, which was created especially for Commercial Bank’s top-performing and highest-potential employees. It helps fast-track the careers of these select individuals to key senior roles, thereby developing the future Qatari
leaders of Commercial Bank.

While the participants comprise local talent, the programme has for the first time been broadened to encompass Commercial Bank’s partner banks - National Bank of Oman and United Arab Bank. There will be two Emirati and seven Omani employees joining the programme.

“At Commercial Bank, we value our people and this programme is a testament to our desire to invest in harnessing and developing homegrown talent within the organisation. The Future Leaders Programme, now in its second year, has proven to be a highly valued programme that enhances executive skills and provides an opportunity for our key employees to develop their knowledge, experience and behaviours and fast-track their careers,” Commercial Bank Group CEO Andrew Stevens was quoted as saying.

“Commercial Bank, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, strives to encourage the development of people within the business and banking industry. The Future Leaders Programme strengthens the leadership capabilities of all who are chosen to participate, improving not only the leadership within our own company, but also in the industry as a whole. Our people are our most important asset and we hope to continue contributing to the Qatari community by promoting excellence and enhancing the skill-set of the talent in the country,” he added.

Delivered in partnership with Judge Business School of the University of Cambridge, the 18-month scheme will have seven modules conducted by professors from the business school and delivered at Commercial Bank Academy, a dedicated training centre in the heart of Doha.

The programme is designed to cover all aspects of management and includes topics such as leading a bank in the GCC, strategy and marketing of financial products and services, innovation and technologies in the banking industry, a “mini MBA”, personal leadership, creating high-performing teams and an in-depth financial master class.

The first cohort of 2012 is nearing the end of its course, which culminates with a visit to Cambridge for the final module and a graduation ceremony. Many of the participants have already been promoted or changed roles in the bank as a result of being a part of the programme.

The programme is dedicated to identifying and cultivating the next generation of banking industry leaders.
