Eight people have been killed in floods that have swept across Thailand since September 16, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) said today.
The authorities explained that 28 provinces, including Bangkok, are still affected by the floods, especially in the central, northern, eastern and northeastern regions of the country.
According to the DDPM, floods swept through 42 provinces between September 16-28, affecting approximately 1.8 million people.
Chadchart Sittipunt, governor of Bangkok, declared the entire capital an area affected by floods, after continuous heavy rains for about 48 hours caused large areas to be flooded with water and caused traffic disturbances.
The Thai Meteorological Department said heavy rainfall in Bangkok and surrounding areas had decreased today.
