Qatar's men's beach volleyball teams made a winning start to the 20th Asian Games, Aichi-Nagoya 2026, on Monday, with both pairs securing straight-set victories in their opening matches.
Qatar 1, featuring Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, swept past the Philippines' Abdilla and Francisco 2-0 (21-7, 21-10) in Group A.
Qatar 2, featuring Mousa Alkhir and Mohamed Ihab, also made a winning start, defeating South Korea's Sangbin and Jongtaek 2-0 (21-13, 21-9) in Group D.
Qatar 2 will face Sri Lanka's Sadun and Dileepa on Wednesday in the second round of Group D, while Qatar 1 will meet Oman's Mazen and Hood on Sunday in the second round of Group A.
In the women's competition, Qatar 2, featuring Malak Mohamed and Shaghaf Amin, lost 2-0 to Thailand's Salinda and Patcharaporn in Group H.
Qatar 1, featuring Haya Ashraf and Laila Mohamed, also opened their campaign with a 2-0 defeat to hosts Japan on Sunday.
