Katara Art Center announced the launch of its new season with two art exhibitions on September 2, which will continue until October 7 at the headquarters of the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara).
The new season includes two exhibitions: the first is a group exhibition titled "Fractures of the Future," featuring four artists: Samah Azzam, Ahmed Al Jufairi, Moza Al Kuwari, and Fatima Mohammed. The second is a solo exhibition by artist Hessa Al Kuwari, titled "The Lounge: What Can a Room Remember"
The group exhibition explores the participating artists’ reflections on the possibilities of the future, alongside their responses to current challenges, with their works presenting a discussion centered on reimagining the future from multiple and contrasting perspectives.
The exhibition reflects the different strategies employed by the artists to reimagine the future, ranging from science fiction and systems thinking to oral history and material experimentation.
These strategies are not limited to anticipating the future, but go beyond that to understand the present moment by responding to pressing social, economic, and environmental issues. Challenges such as the climate crisis and land exploitation, among others, drive the artists to imagine a better future and, through their works, call for radical changes.The other exhibition, which is the first exhibition by visual artist Hessa Al Kuwari, reflects through the participating works on the importance of the living room within the details of everyday life.
Through painting, photography, and installation works, it observes the importance of the patterns, objects, pieces of furniture, clothing, and rituals that inhabit these spaces, which at first appear ordinary and familiar. However, the exhibition space transforms them into subjects for contemplation and observation.
