Qatar Charity (QC) continued implementing its development and humanitarian projects across Tanzania from January to June.
The projects covered a wide range of sectors, including water, mosque construction, social welfare, healthcare, economic empowerment, relief assistance, and food security, aiming to improve living conditions and promote sustainable development for vulnerable communities.
In response to climate-related challenges and recurrent droughts affecting water availability, the QC implemented 431 water wells of varying depths across Tanzania.
These were 347 wells at a depth of 20m, 48 wells at 30m, four wells at 60m, 24 wells at 80m, six wells at 90m, and two wells at 100m.
To enhance sustainability, 30 wells were equipped with solar-powered systems, particularly in rural areas with limited access to electricity.
In addition, seven reverse osmosis units were installed to improve water quality and provide safe drinking water in areas facing water contamination challenges.
As part of its efforts to support infrastructure and strengthen social cohesion, Qatar Charity constructed 69 mosques across Tanzania: 56 mosques measuring 70sqm, 12 mosques measuring 80sqm, and one mosque measuring 120sqm.
These mosques provide appropriate spaces for worship, Islamic education, and the promotion of positive social and moral values within local communities.
In the field of social welfare, the QC implemented 52 projects targeting persons with disabilities and vulnerable groups.
The interventions included the provision of wheelchairs, medical eyeglasses, and household items, helping improve beneficiaries’ living conditions and meet their daily needs.
Qatar Charity also implemented nine healthcare projects aimed at expanding access to essential medical services.
These included six projects addressing non-communicable diseases, benefiting approximately 2,400 people through diagnostic and treatment services.
In addition, blindness prevention initiatives included 400 glaucoma surgeries and the provision of eye care services, medicines, and eyeglasses to more than 2,000 beneficiaries.
A cleft lip surgery project was also carried out, enabling 132 children to receive life-changing corrective procedures.
As part of its livelihood support programmes, the QC implemented three income-generating projects – one fishing boat project and two tuk-tuk transportation projects – creating employment opportunities and helping beneficiaries improve their household income.
The QC also implemented a relief programme on Mafia Island, benefiting 125 individuals from vulnerable families through the distribution of food supplies and essential relief items, helping alleviate the impact of difficult economic conditions.
In the area of food security, Qatar Charity launched six projects: four cattle farming projects aimed at improving nutrition and creating sustainable sources of income, and two vegetable gardening projects.
