The Public Works Authority (Ashghal), in collaboration with the Qatar Scientific Club (QSC), has concluded the fifth edition of the “Future Engineer” programme, held from July 4-23, with the participation of 40 male and female secondary school students.
The initiative is part of Ashghal’s ongoing efforts to develop young talent, foster interest in engineering disciplines, and equip future generations with the knowledge and skills needed to meet evolving national and global demands.
During the first week, participants visited several departments within Ashghal, where they gained insight into engineering practices across different sectors through guided tours, presentations, and interactive workshops.
These activities provided students with a closer understanding of the authority’s working environment and the major infrastructure projects it delivers.
In the second week, participants moved to the QSC, where they took part in intensive technical workshops and hands-on training sessions.
Working in teams, they developed engineering solutions to real-world challenges, applying the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the programme to produce prototypes under the supervision of experienced specialists.
“The Future Engineer programme reflects Ashghal’s commitment to its social responsibility by investing in young people from an early age through an integrated educational experience that combines knowledge with practical application,” said Fatima al-Kubaisi, the head of Ashghal’s External Relations Section.
“Providing students with direct exposure to engineering work environments and introducing them to engineering projects and disciplines helps broaden their perspectives, develop their skills, discover their career interests, and make informed decisions about their future while contributing to Qatar’s national development,” she added.
QSC administrative and financial director Fatima al-Muhannadi described the programme as a leading example of institutional collaboration in serving the next generation, affirming the club’s commitment to providing an educational environment that nurtures young people’s passion for science and engineering.
The programme concluded with a closing ceremony during which participants presented their final engineering projects before a specialised judging panel.
Winning teams were announced, and all participants were honoured.
