His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani held official talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi at Lusail Palace Sunday. At the outset of the talks, HH the Amir welcomed the Iraqi prime minister and his accompanying delegation, expressing hope that the fraternal relations between the two countries would continue to grow and prosper across various fields.
The Iraqi premier offered condolences on the passing of His Highness the late Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani. He also thanked HH the Amir for the warm reception and expressed his hope that the visit would help expand bilateral co-operation and strengthen ties between the two countries across broader horizons.
The two sides reviewed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen and expand co-operation across various fields. They also discussed the most significant regional and international issues and developments, especially the evolving situation in the region.
Both sides stressed the importance of all parties adhering to dialogue and diplomacy and implementing the agreements reached under the Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran, including ensuring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and promoting regional stability.
The talks were attended by His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, His Excellency Chief of Amiri Diwan Abdullah bin Mohammed al-Khulaifi, His Excellency Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulaziz al-Khulaifi. Also attending from the Iraqi side were Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein and a number of senior officials.
