The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) has carried out a large-scale field cleanup campaign targeting several natural meadows (Rawda) and wilderness sites across Qatar.
The initiative forms part of MoECC’s ongoing efforts to protect the country’s land environment, promote the sustainability of vegetation cover, and reduce the environmental impacts of waste and irresponsible practices.
The campaign was implemented over the past six months and included extensive cleaning operations and the removal of waste from several prominent rawdas, including Rawdat Umm Ashkhout, Rawdat Al-Shafalahia, Rawdat Muqaitna, Rawdat Al-Nu’man, Rawdat Al-Maida, and Rawdat Aisha. It also covered a wide range of camping locations, including Al-Mazrouah, Al-Jemailiya, and Al-Sanaa.
The campaign resulted in the removal of significant quantities of various types of waste and the rehabilitation of the targeted sites, contributing to the preservation of their natural ecosystems, enhancing the environmental landscape, and mitigating the negative impacts of pollution on wildlife and vegetation.
The MoECC called on all visitors to Qatar’s desert and natural areas to adopt environmentally responsible practices, maintain the cleanliness of natural sites, and dispose of waste only in designated locations. It stressed that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility requiring the cooperation of all members of society to preserve Qatar’s environmental heritage for future generations.
