Qatar's Ambassador to Swiss Confederation: Qatari diplomacy played pivotal role in finalizing US-Iran MoU

His Excellency Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Swiss Confederation Mohamed bin Jaham Al Kuwari affirmed that Qatari diplomacy played a pivotal role in supporting the efforts that led to the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, through its support for the initiatives and efforts led by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, along with the efforts of a number of partner countries. He noted that this achievement represents a historic step towards consolidating security and stability in the region.

In an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), His Excellency said that the State of Qatar harnessed its relations and diplomatic efforts to support various initiatives aimed at bringing the parties closer together, which contributed to the signing of the MoU. He stressed that the agreement prevented further tension, which would have had direct repercussions on the security of the region and the global economy.

HE Ambassador added that the MoU represents the beginning of a new phase of dialogue, as it opens the door to discussing various outstanding issues and files, which contributes to strengthening security and stability, and supports building broader partnerships between the countries of the region, as well as strengthening political and strategic relations with the international community.

His Excellency explained that the signing ceremony of the agreement and the technical meetings hosted by the Burgenstock Resort in Switzerland represent a pivotal point in this process, as they come after a period of tensions that almost had major repercussions on the political, economic and infrastructure levels. He indicated that the MoU laid the foundation for the launch of negotiations that address a number of tracks and issues with the aim of reaching a comprehensive agreement that enhances security and stability in the region.

Regarding the role that the State of Qatar will play in the next phase, HE the Ambassador stressed that Qatar’s role is not limited to contributing to reaching the MoU, but extends to creating the necessary political and diplomatic atmosphere to support its implementation, and continuing communication with various parties, in order to ensure that what has been agreed upon is translated into practical steps.

His Excellency pointed out that the next stage requires continuous diplomatic work to address a number of sensitive files and issues. He stressed that Qatar will continue to facilitate dialogue and meetings, and work with all parties to ensure the implementation of the MoU, leading to a final agreement that achieves security and stability in the region.

HE the Ambassador stressed that the international community is paying close attention to the success of this path, given the strategic importance of the region and the impact of its stability on the global economy, noting that the efforts made by the State of Qatar in the field of mediation are widely appreciated at the regional and international levels.

His Excellency referred to the meeting that brought together HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani and the Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation Ignazio Cassis, which witnessed praise for the role played by the State of Qatar in the field of mediation and promoting peaceful solutions to conflicts.

He added that cooperation between the State of Qatar and Switzerland in the field of mediation is witnessing continuous development, in light of the letter of intent signed between the two countries in 2025. He noted that the two sides are working to support efforts to resolve conflicts in a number of regions of the world, reflecting the growing international confidence in Qatari diplomacy.

Concluding his statement to QNA, HE the Ambassador affirmed that the State of Qatar has become an international model in the field of mediation thanks to its accumulated diplomatic expertise, specialized institutional system, and a consistent approach based on dialogue, confidence-building, and bringing viewpoints closer, which has made it a reliable partner in international efforts aimed at establishing peace and settling disputes.
