The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) strongly condemned the killing of three Lebanese journalists while carrying out their journalistic duties in an Israeli airstrike in Jezzine, southern Lebanon, on Saturday night.
In a statement, IFJ General Secretary Anthony Bellanger said, "Journalists are civilians protected under international humanitarian law. By deliberately targeting these three media professionals, the State of Israel has once again committed a serious violation of this law." He called for an independent international investigation to ensure that those responsible are identified and prosecuted and to end impunity for crimes committed against journalists.
According to field reports, several Lebanese areas, especially southern towns, have witnessed a significant military escalation in recent hours, with ongoing airstrikes and artillery shelling.
