His Highness the Amir attended the ninth edition of the Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad al-Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award ceremony this morning at the Katara Ballroom at Fairmont and Raffles Doha hotels.
The ceremony was also attended by HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; HE Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanim, Speaker of the Shura Council; HE Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA; a number of Their Excellencies the Ministers; heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Qatar; senior officials; and guests of the ceremony.
During the ceremony, a film was shown about the award, its history, and its development in combating corruption, in addition to highlighting the efforts made by the award winners and their outstanding contributions through presenting exemplary models of leadership, innovation, and commitment to fighting corruption.
His Highness the Amir honoured Professor Nikos Passas and Dr Marianne Kamerer, winners of the Academic Research and Educational Materials Award, and Gloria Pallares Venuelos, Tatenda Chitago, and Andisua Matikenka, winners of the Innovation and Investigative Journalism Award.
His Highness also honoured Mar Niang and Motiullah Wissa, winners of the Youth Creativity and Engagement Award, and Drago Kass and Dr Obiageli Ezquisili, winners of the Lifetime Achievement and Outstanding Achievement Award
.During the ceremony, HE John Brandolino, deputy secretary-general of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, delivered a speech, as well as HE Alexander Zuev, deputy secretary-General of the Office of Counter-Terrorism, and HE Dr Ali bin Fetais al-Marri, chairman of the Higher Committee for the Award.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Higher Committee for the Award, the Award Advisory Committee, members of the Executive Committee and the Global Organisation of Parliamentarians Against Corruption, and several international researchers specializing in the award's field.
