The inaugural Marsa Polo Qatar 2025 didn't just bring the "Sport of Kings" to the Old Doha Port — it rewrote the local history books. In a landmark evening for the nation's sporting landscape, the event witnessed the emotional and historic debut of the first-ever Qatari polo players, signaling a new era for equestrian ambitions in the country.
Set against the stunning backdrop of the Doha Corniche, the event perfectly blended high-stakes competition with the rich heritage celebrated by the "Years of Culture" initiative—focusing this year on ties with Argentina and Chile.
In the battle for the "Years of Culture 2025 Championship Cup," Team Buenos Aires emerged victorious. The squad, featuring Saleh Al Marri, Milo Mac Donough, and polo legend Pablo MacDonough, showcased exceptional skill to secure the title. The trophy was presented to the champions by Sheikh Nawaf bin Nasser Al Thani.
Meanwhile, the "Marsa Ladies Cup" saw Team Lusail dominate the field. Led by World Champion Nina Clarkin, alongside Elizabeth Clarkin and Lucia Mer Portillo, the team accepted their silverware from Mr. Ashraf Abu Issa, Chairman of the Qatar Polo Club.
A Milestone for Qatar
While the trophies gleamed, the true highlight of the day was the historic appearance of Qatar's first homegrown polo players. Their entry onto the field resonated deeply with the crowd, marking a significant milestone in Qatar’s sporting journey and serving as inspiration for a new generation of local talent.
Hosted by the Qatar Polo Club with support from the Social and Sport Contribution Fund (Daam) and presented by Qatar Calendar, the event went beyond the chukkers. The venue transformed into a hub of elegance, with guests dressed in equestrian-chic attire for the "Fashions on the Field" competition.
Spectators moved seamlessly between the Polo Village, hospitality lounges, and live entertainment zones. A standout feature was the heritage show, which celebrated Qatar’s deep-rooted equestrian traditions while bridging the gap to the modern game of polo.
The event’s success was underpinned by a robust lineup of partners, including Old Doha Port (Strategic Host), Muse (Event Organizer), and a host of official sponsors ensuring the tournament’s logistical, medical, and media success.
As the sun set on the proceedings at Old Doha Port, Marsa Polo Qatar 2025 had firmly established itself not just as a tournament, but as a bridge between sport, culture, and the future of Qatari polo.
