Amid extremely deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Gaza, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has completed the distribution of 31,000 litres of potable water to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and residents in the governorates of Gaza, Central Gaza, and Khan Younis.
Implemented in partnership with Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO), this distribution is part of the 'Vegetable Parcels and Water Tankers for Gaza' project, a statement said.
Dr Akram Nassar, head of QRCS’s representation office in Gaza, said that their current humanitarian efforts focused on securing water services, given the severe water scarcity due to the war.
The water sector was badly affected by the destruction of main water supply networks and pipelines, lack of access to fuel for the operation of municipal and private water wells, and attacks against municipal technicians while attempting to deliver water to the population, he pointed out.
“In continuous coordination with our partners, JHCO and Rawabi Foundation, we completed the water distribution in Gaza in two phases: (1) 13,500 liters in Gaza City and (2) 17,500 liters in Central Gaza and Khan Younis. This helped alleviate the suffering of IDPs at shelter camps and in residential areas,” Dr Nassar explained.
Totaling $2,743,484 (more than QR10mn) in value, the project is part of QRCS’s successive emergency relief interventions, aimed at providing all forms of humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people in the blockade.
