Qatar powered into the men’s final of the FIP Asia Padel Cup with a 2-0 win over Iran in today semi-final. The hosts will now face the United Arab Emirates, who edged Australia in a tense contest, in today’s championship decider at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha.



In the semi-final against Iran, victories by Al Khanji and Aljufairi, and by brothers Rashid and Mashari Nawaf, secured the two points needed for Qatar’s win.

Looking to shatter Qatar’s dream will be the United Arab Emirates, who came from behind to defeat Australia 2-1. The decisive wins came in the second and third matches, respectively by Vilariño/M. Al Janahi (6-3 6-1) and Goenaga/F. Al Janahi (6-4 7-5).



Meanwhile, Iran and Japan will face each other for the maiden FIP Asia Women’s Padel Cup for women. Japan staged a great comeback, after losing the first match of the semi-final tie against Australia, Ozawa/Tsukamoto leveled the score (6-1, 6-3 against Villamizar/Brycki), before Tokumoto/Kushima sealed the decisive victory (6-2, 6-3).



Iran, on the other hand, needed only the first two matches to overcome Indonesia as victories from Najafi Dehaghi/Hana and Zahrizi/Fard earned Iran a spot in the final.
