Aemilianus began his new season campaign in perfect fashion, picking up almost right where he left off last season with a commanding display in the Sealine Cup over 1400m yesterday.
At the Al Rayyan Racecourse, the Sheikh Mohammed bin Salman al-Thani-owned six-year-old runner tracked the leading pack throughout before producing a dazzling turn of foot in the home straight to sweep past his rivals and win comfortably by three lengths for trainer Jassim al-Ghazali and jockey Marco Casamento. Abdulla Rashid al-Kubaisi, QREC Racing Manager, awarded the winners.
“The horse ran very well. It was the first start for him this season. The 1400m distance was very short for him and today he did very well,” said Casamento after the win.
The trainer and jockey duo completed a double as Basalt in the colours of Mansoor bin Ebrahim al-Mahmoud, won the Thoroughbred Conditions for the three-year-olds over 1600m with a margin of 1¼ lengths.
Jockey Alberto Sanna, who won a double on Wednesday including feature -- Asherij Cup with Grace Secret -- got his day rolling nicely yesterday by winning the first and third race of the day and later completed a triple on the card by winning the fifth race of the day.
Sanna first rode Saleh Saed al-Hajri-owned and Nayef Batal al-Otibi-trained Sheikha to Thoroughbred Maiden Plate for three-year-olds in the card opener and in the third race of the day he guided Maadi Alseej, in the colours of Khalid Hamad al-Atteya, to the Local Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate for three-year-olds over 1400m win.
Yousef Ali al-Rumaihi-owned and Hamad al-Jehani-trained Angus gave Sanna his third victory of the day by claiming the Purebred Arabian Handicap (60-80) race for three-year-old+ by a neck.
