With support from philanthropists in Qatar and as part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts to support the health sector in Ghana, Qatar Charity (QC) facilitated 'heart puncture' surgeries on 40 patients suffering from congenital heart diseases.

In collaboration with the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), complex cases such as patent ductus arteriosus, ventricular septal defects, atrial septal defects, and pulmonary valve stenosis were repaired using the latest cardiac catheterisation techniques, which contributed to rapid recovery and reduced risks.

Dr Abdul Samad Tanko, CEO of the UGMC, said that the partnership with QC has a long-term impact, as it transfers skills and expertise to our local team and provides them with direct practical training under the guidance of international specialists in the field. Prof Muhammad Tawfiq Numan, head of the visiting medical team to Ghana and a senior cardiologist at the University of Texas, also thanked QC for humanitarian missions that change people's lives for the better. Prof Nana Akyia Yaw, who oversaw the coordination of operations, appreciated the ongoing efforts of QC's office in Ghana.
