The Ministry of Municipality has announced the completion of distributing recycling containers (the blue bin) across all areas of Doha Municipality, as part of the implementation phases of the “Integrated National Programme for Waste Sorting at Source.”

The programme aims to enable the community to sort its waste in an easy and effective way, while contributing to the promotion of environmental sustainability culture.

Accordingly, Muqbil Madhour al-Shammari, Director of the General Cleanliness Department, explained that the campaign, which began in October 2023 and runs until June this year, included the distribution of 10,858 containers to various households, in addition to field awareness campaigns carried out in commercial complexes and public parks. The ministry focused on highlighting the importance of recycling and the correct use of containers. More than 2,183 tonnes of recyclable waste have been collected in cooperation with specialized companies.

Further, Al-Shammari noted that according to the plans set for the National Programme for Waste Sorting at Source, the ministry began in July 2025 distributing containers within the administrative boundaries of Al-Rayyan Municipality. A total of 4,400 containers have been distributed so far, and distribution in Al-Rayyan Municipality is expected to be completed by the end of next year, 2026.

He affirmed that the ministry will continue its efforts to achieve the objectives of the Third National Development Strategy, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, by promoting the principles of the circular economy, reducing waste, and preserving a clean environment for future generations.

Meanwhile, Eng Jamal Matar al-Nuaimi, Director General of Doha Municipality, expressed his pride in this achievement, confirming that the distribution of blue containers represents a practical and effective step to enhance community participation in environmental protection and raise awareness of the importance of recycling, in line with the goals of sustainable development. He added that Doha Municipality continues, in cooperation with the concerned authorities, to implement initiatives and projects that support the circular economy and provide a healthy and clean environment for all citizens and residents.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Municipality called on the public to cooperate and make use of these containers by applying the methodology of waste sorting at source, contributing to the success of the national program, and strengthening Qatar’s position in the field of environmental sustainability regionally and globally.
