Minister of Sports and Youth HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani, also the President of the Gulf Football Association participated in the General Assembly meeting of the Arab Football Association (AFA) in Riyadh Monday under the chairmanship of HE Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Faisal. The results of the meeting were the appointment by the General Assembly of the Arab Football Association of Prince Abdulaziz as Chairman of the Federation Council by acclamation for a new term (2025-2029).

The General Assembly approved the membership of HE Sheikh Hamad, HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Isa al-Khalifa, Engineer Hani Abu Rida, Professor Fawzi Lekjaa, Professor Hashem Haidar, Professor Abdullah al-Junaibi, Professor Ahmed Yahya, and Dr. Moatasem Jaafar to the Federation Council, in addition to the membership of Palestine, for Lieutenant General Jibril Rajoub, and the membership of the women’s seat for Professor Samar Nassar.

Following the meeting, the signing ceremony of agreements to host Arab Football Association competitions with the federations of Egypt, Iraq, the UAE, Libya, Lebanon, and Mauritania, in addition to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, took place. Seven federations will host 14 Arab championships from 2026 to 2029.

The Council of the Arab Football Association preceded the Assembly by holding its 79th meeting, chaired by HE Prince Abdulaziz during which it approved the administrative and financial reports of the General Secretariat. The 80th meeting of the new Council was then held, during which the two Vice Presidents of the President of the Association were chosen: First Vice President Engineer Hani Abu Rida and Second Vice President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani.
