HE the Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaie toured the 9th Katara International Hunting and Falcons Exhibition (S'hail 2025) yesterday.
The minister honoured a host of private project owners engaged in the breeding the houbara bustard, in recognition of their role in supporting national efforts to preserve biodiversity and protect the bird from the risk of extinction.
HE Dr al-Subaie was briefed on the key showcased items and innovations in the areas of falconry and hunting.
He also toured the ministry's two pavilions at the exhibition and was briefed on the online services offered by the ministry to reinforce the digital transformation in the environmental sector.
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC)'s participation this year debuted in a new format that reflects its evolving orientation toward promoting environmental awareness and a culture of sustainability.
The director of the MoECC’s Public Relations and Communications Department, Farhoud Hadi al-Hajri, said that the Natural Reserves Department's pavilion highlights outstanding initiatives, including online services associated with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), as part of the national campaign to control the Myna bird.
He added that the pavilion of the Office for State Protected Areas showcases Qatar's efforts to breed the houbara bustard through specialised centres both at home and abroad, alongside educational exhibits such as taxidermy specimens, live bird displays, and an interactive 3D map of current and planned breeding centres.
Al-Hajri said that the ministry also debuted the Promising Falconer Passport with the objective of promoting environmental awareness among young people and further engaging them with the cultural and heritage legacy associated with the hobby of hunting with falcons. – QNA
