Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif al-Thani said that the UN Security Council session on the Israeli attack against Qatar on Sept 9 had concluded successfully.

In remarks to the Qatar News Agency (QNA) from New York, HE Sheikha Alya said that the statements delivered by all 15 member states supported Qatar’s clear and lawful position.

She added that the success of the session was reflected in the council’s press statement, which condemned the Israeli strike on Qatar on Sept 9 and reaffirmed the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

She noted that the member states also emphasised in the statement that the attack targeted a country playing a central role in mediation efforts.

HE Sheikha Alya further pointed out that the strike on residential compounds used by the Hamas political office had resulted in the martyrdom of several people, including a Qatari citizen, in a blatant violation of international law and Qatar’s sovereignty.

She stressed that the council’s statement commended Qatar’s role in regional mediation and highlighted Doha’s efforts to end the war in Gaza and save Palestinian lives.
