Qatar News Agency (QNA) concluded on Tuesday a specialised training course titled "News Verification", as part of the programmes organised by its Training Centre to develop the professional capabilities of media personnel and enhance their efficiency in various fields of journalism.
The three-day programme was delivered by Ali Asraf, a media expert at QNA, with the participation of several agency employees, along with employees from the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), as well as staff from various media institutions and government entities.
The course focused on developing participants' skills in media monitoring and journalistic verification, given the massive flow of information in the digital space and the subsequent challenges related to the accuracy and reliability of media content.
It also addressed several key topics, most notably the concept of journalistic verification and its sources, professional tools for media monitoring and content authentication, mechanisms for verifying news before and after publication, the use of artificial intelligence in verification processes, detection of fake news and fabricated content, and enhancing journalists' critical analysis and editorial judgment in handling information.
The course also highlighted the importance of adopting astute methodologies for gathering information and evaluating news sources in order to ensure the production of reliable media content that enhances the credibility of media organisations and aligns with international professional standards in journalism.
This course comes as part of Qatar News Agency's ongoing efforts to qualify media professionals through specialised programmes at its Training Centre, which was inaugurated in March 2023 and is equipped with the latest technical and training equipment. The initiative contributes to preparing a generation of journalists capable of keeping pace with rapid transformations in the digital media landscape. (QNA)
