A goal each from Pedro Miguel and Akram Afif saw Al Sadd swing their way back in Qatar Stars League (QSL) with a 2-0 win over Al Ahli 2-0 in the second round at the Al Thumama Stadium Thursday.
Earlier, Qatar SC continued their winning start to the league as they snubbed Al Sailiya 2-0 at the Al Bayt Stadium.
Defending champions Al Sadd, who had lost their opening clash to Qatar SC last week, had to work their way through against Al Ahli after a goalless opening half before Miguel put them ahead unleashing a superb kick from the edge of the box into the far top right corner of the net.
Miguel gained fine placement with the ball after a brief battle inside the box following an indirect corner kick taken by Afif.
Later, Afif notched his first goal of the new league season bursting out to catch a Roberto Firmino through ball while beating a chasing defender and the goalkeeper. The star player then ran down to greet the club's fans before rushing back on field.
Al Sadd could have added one more to the tally but Giavani Henrique missed an open net just shooting wide to the right in added time.
For Al Ahli, it remained a tale of hits and misses. In the 11th minute, a crack from Suhaib Gannan was blocked away by Al Sadd goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham.
Early in the second half, Giovani Henrique while being in the clear shoot just wide to the right and later in the 76th minute an Ibrahima Diallo shot was again cut off by Barsham.
The added play too had some crucial moments for both sides. The final whistle was blown just after Afif shoot one into the hands of rival goalkeeper Yazan Naim.

The day's first match saw Lukas Kalvach and Joao Pedro delivering the goals as Qatar SC defeated Al Sailiya 2-0 at the Al Bayt Stadium.
The match turned on its head towards the closing stages as both sides wasted many glaring opportunities to secure the opener.
Raoul Sanda squandered a begging chance to put Qatar SC ahead in the 19th minute when the rebound of a thunderous shot from Pedro fell into his path, but the Cameroonian international disappointingly hit the side net with only goalkeeper Fahad Younes to beat.
Kalvach eventually got the opener from a beautiful long-range curling shot. Al Sailiya could have gotten their equalizer from the spot within seven minutes of the goal, but Mohamed Benyettou's penalty kick was superbly saved.
Pedro extended The Kings' lead late into extra time, scoring from the spot as Qatar SC made it two wins from the two matches played.
