The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC), represented by the Marine Protection Department, caught a violation in the territorial water of Al Khor.

The violation, according to a statement from MoECC, involved the use of prohibited fishing nets, which are approximately 1,000m long. They were used in violation of the ban on the use of nets, which is in effect from August 15 to October 15.

The ministry explained that marine control teams detected the violation during their field inspection tours. Necessary legal measures were taken, in accordance with the laws and regulations governing fishing operations in Qatar.

The ministry is taking up continued efforts to implement daily inspection campaigns to protect the marine environment and preserve fish stocks while emphasising the importance of fishermen adhering to the controls and procedures in place to ensure the sustainability of marine resources.

The ban on the use of nets aims to reduce fishing effort during the spawning season of king fish, maintain the sustainability of fish stocks, protect biodiversity and ensure the balance of the marine ecosystem.

MoECC, in a statement, stressed the continuation of its inspection and monitoring campaigns in various marine areas of the country. It urged fishermen to adhere to the laws and regulations governing fishing, which will contribute to protecting fish resources and preserving their sustainability.
