Qatar-Vietnam relations have developed in a positive, effective, and trusted manner over the years on all levels driven by the strong will of the leaderships to enhance bilateral cooperation in all fields for the good of the two peoples, Vietnamese Ambassador to Doha Nguyen Huy Hiep stressed.

Addressing media Wednesday on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Vietnam National Day, the envoy pointed out that both countries see great potential for new areas of cooperation including trade, business, investment, education, culture and tourism, and information technology and cybersecurity.

He explained that bilateral trade turnover has steadily increased in recent years, reaching over $860mn in 2024, an increase of $100mn compared to 2023. There has been vibrant exchange of delegations at all levels, most notably the official visit to Qatar by the Prime Minister of Vietnam in October 2024.

In 2025, Vietnam welcomed several Qatari delegations to attend major events such as the P4G Summit (April 2025) and the 80th Anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Public Security Forces (August 2025).

The ambassador pointed out that "at the business-to-business level, the Embassy is working closely with Qatari government agencies and key partners, including the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Public Health, Mwani Qatar, Qatar Tourism, the Qatar Free Zones Authority, Qatar Airways, and private enterprises, to address bottlenecks, expand market access for Vietnamese goods and services, and promote cooperation in logistics, skilled labour, tourism, and two-way investment."

"We attach particular importance to strengthening cooperation in science, technology, and innovation; food security with a focus on high-tech agriculture; information technology and cybersecurity, as well as encouraging greater presence of businesses and investors from both sides in each other’s markets," he said.

The Vietamese envoy confirmed that regarding "people-to-people exchanges, culture, education, and sports will continue to serve as strong bridges linking the two nations. Qatar has provided Arabic language scholarships for Vietnamese students and partnered in many cultural activities organised by the Embassy. In November 2024, the two sides signed memoranda of understanding on cooperation in sports and between diplomatic academies."

Regarding the future plans he noted that "we will work to expand scholarship opportunities, implement training programmes, and organise more cultural events, including the “Soul of Vietnam” exhibition scheduled for September in Doha, as well as film screenings showcasing Vietnam in 2026."
