Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone conversation on Wednesday with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, focusing on efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine and reach a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict between the neighboring countries, which began in February 2022. During the call, President Erdogan reaffirmed Turkiye's support for a peace process in Ukraine that includes all parties, emphasizing the importance of establishing a lasting peace through inclusive dialogue.
President Putin, for his part, praised Turkiye's role in hosting three rounds of negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian delegations in recent months, and acknowledged Ankara's continued efforts to help resolve the crisis.
The city of Istanbul previously hosted three rounds of talks between Kyiv and Moscow, which yielded limited progress and were primarily confined to agreements on prisoner exchanges.
