Italian club AS Roma have announced the signing of Jamaican international Leon Bailey from English side Aston Villa on a season-long loan deal.

In a statement published on their official website on Wednesday, Roma confirmed that the agreement includes an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season, which kicks off this weekend.

Bailey, 28, spent the past four seasons with Aston Villa, scoring 22 goals in 144 appearances for the Premier League club.

Roma, now under the leadership of Gian Piero Gasperini - the former Atalanta manager - are aiming to secure a spot in the UEFA Champions League, a competition they haven't qualified for since 2018.

The Giallorossi will host Bologna at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday in their opening fixture of the Serie A campaign.
