The Indian schools in Qatar on Friday joined the 79th Independence Day celebrations, with the hoisting of the national flag and the rendition of the national anthem.

At Birla Public School, chairman Gope Shahani hoisted the national flag. He urged everyone to reflect upon the sacrifices made for the freedom of India and emphasised the role of education institutions in shaping the future of the nation. Principal Dr Anand R Nair welcomed the gathering and proposed a vote of thanks.

At MES Indian School, head prefect Mohammed Abdul Muqeet gave an introduction, followed by a prayer led by Saliq Riyaz. Head boy Mohamad Kamal Ali Badran welcomed the gathering. Officiating principal Mohammed Ilias hoisted the national flag. The choir led the rendition of the national anthem, followed by a patriotic song. Cultural secretary Jis Thomas proposed a vote of thanks.

At Ideal Indian School, president Dr Hassan Kunhi M P unfurled the national flag in the presence of principal Shaik Shamim Saheb and other officials. The choir performed the national anthem. Arabic teacher Imran led the prayer. Riyana Abdul Rashid recited a patriotic poem, followed by a dance by Aaira Farhan, Vedha Vivek and Diya Karthik. Junior Section teacher Heena Farhan was the host.

At Podar Pearl School, staff from all three campuses converged at Meshaf for the celebrations along with the directors. Vice president Pranav Pradeep hoisted the national flag, followed by the national anthem. Vice principal Dr Steffy Rachel Sam delivered the Independence Day address by the President of India.

The celebrations at MES Indian School's (Mesis) Abu Hamour branch the national flag hoisting was followed by salutations. The event concluded with a group song by students.

At Noble International School the national flag was hoisted by finance director Shoukath Ali Taj. Vice principal (administration) Robin K Jose gave a welcome address. Independence Day messages were delivered by general secretary Basheer K P and vice chairman advocate Abdu Rahim Kunnummal. Management committee secretaries Mashood V C and Abdul Khader were present. Vice principal (CCA) Shihabudheen proposed a vote of thanks.

At DPS Modern Indian School, president Yasir Nainar unfurled the tricolour in the presence of other officials. The cultural programme featured poetry recital, patriotic song, and dance.

At DPS Monarch International School, the marked not just the celebration of India’s journey, but also the institution's growth in six academic years to over 4,000 students.
