The Qatar youth boxing team returned to Doha today following their remarkable participation in the Asian Youth Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand, from July 30 to August 12.
The tournament witnessed a standout performance from boxer Fares al-Thani, who secured the bronze medal in the +90kg weight category — a new achievement added to Qatar’s continental boxing record.
Upon arrival at Hamad International Airport, the delegation was greeted by HE Sheikh Fahad bin Khalid al-Thani, President of the Qatar Boxing and Wrestling Federation; Sultan Hassan al-Jammali, Secretary General of the Federation; and Ghanem Saleh ¬Kuwari, Board Member and Head of the Boxing Committee.
They congratulated champion Fares al-Thani and the team on their accomplishment, reaffirming the federation’s continued support for developing the sport and preparing athletes for upcoming competitions.
HE Sheikh Fahad bin Khalid al-Thani praised the team’s outstanding showing, saying: “We are proud of what our boxer Fares al-Thani achieved at the Asian Youth Championship.
This accomplishment is the result of hard work and consistent training, and it confirms we are on the right path toward building a generation capable of representing Qatar at the highest sporting stages. We promise to continue developing young talents and providing the best conditions to achieve more successes.”
Fares al-Thani’s achievement marks a significant milestone in his sporting career, proving his skill in the ring with a strong performance and high fighting spirit that earned him a place on the podium and the honor of raising Qatar’s flag high in a tournament that featured fierce competition from some of Asia’s top boxers.
This success is the product of years of dedication and intensive training, backed by the efforts of both the technical and administrative teams, serving as motivation for him and a new generation of boxers to continue the path of excellence and elevate Qatari boxing both locally and internationally.
