Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his German counterpart Johann Wadephul have discussed on the phone regional developments, primarily the situation in the Gaza Strip.
In a statement released on Monday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that Abdelatty firmly rejected the Israeli cabinet's decision to expand military operations in Gaza and reinforce Israel's occupation of the territory. He warned that the decision poses a serious threat and will lead to further deterioration and instability in Gaza.
Abdelatty stressed the need for a clear stance against this decision, calling on the European Union to act swiftly to halt the dangerous Israeli escalation. He added that the Israeli move seeks to entrench the illegal occupation of Palestinian land and reaffirmed Egypt's complete rejection of the policy of starvation and systematic killing of the Palestinian people.
For his part, the German Foreign Minister expressed his full appreciation for Egypt's tireless efforts to achieve a ceasefire and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. He also commended Egypt's initiative to host a conference for the early recovery and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
In this context, he affirmed Germany's interest in participating in the conference at a high level and as a sponsor, given the importance his country places on early recovery and reconstruction. He also agreed with the Egyptian Foreign Minister on the grave danger posed by the expansion of Israeli military operations in Gaza.
