The Ministry of Municipality's Fisheries Department has announced that the annual ban on catching kingfish will be in effect from August 15 to October 15, this year.
During this period, kingfish cannot be caught using gill nets, and the trading or transportation of kingfish fishing nets is also banned. Only line fishing will be permitted. The initiative aims to protect and preserve fish stocks for the future and sustain the local environment.
A total of 3,301 tonnes kingfish was caught in 2024, a statement said Sunday.
